Ignorant rap; Hip hop's nemisis. Ignorant rap came out of just freestyling & just having fun, but some artists allow that to come they're whole career, which causes a downfall in our music. There will always be someone out there to rap about money, cars,& hoes just like there will always be $5.99,V.I.M clothing, its not for everyone, but someone in this world enjoys it.
Recently, I have began to realize the pick up hip hop has taken since all the bad music we've been hearing, post Nas' album "HipHop is dead". Due to all the losers that come out claiming their music is true hip hop when in all actuality they just had a catchy chorus, and a decent beat.
Those such as Drake, J.Cole, & Prophit are making a name for themselves not only as rappers, but as rappers releasing hip hop tracks with steady concepts & creating imagery through great storylines, to keep listeners engaged. Something that has not often been seen since the late 90's with songs such as Biggie's "I got a story to tell", and in recent years Binary Star's "Glen Close" with twisted concepts one is not sure what the story will do next.
I'm sure you have all heard of Jay-z's new RocNation artist, J. Cole. His new song off his mixtape, The Warm Up, "Lights Please" is an amazing track I heard at the end of June. My new fav track comes off the mixtape is "Dreams", my brother put me on to this track a few days ago, and I've played it like 1,000 times since I heard it. His concepts are amazing, I'd compare them to that of the Pharcyde or to Souls of Mischief. East meets West. He's done it again on the same mixtape. Check it out.
Prophit is also another artist on the come up straight from Queens, making big noise. His mixtape "Cause When you Stop Dreaming its Time to Die" features a list of tracks with amazing concepts, such as, "Baroness", and newer songs, not on the mixtape such as, "Pain is Love" & "Devil wears Prada" (Proph x Alex Goose) which all have great concepts. His understanding of the women along with his ablity to analyze a sitation and tell it for what it is, is amazing. Def an artists to check out.
After listening to T-pain's come back tune at Jay-z and other bad media, on DJ Envy's "New at 2", I had to do blog about this. I understand the artist's need to defend his art or what "feeds his kids" as he states in the song, but this track is trash. It’s not about getting at T-pain or trying to discourage him from continuing his art. I just believe that this is complete crap.
When did t-pain become a rapper? The whole track sounded like an angry 11 year old defending himself with a poem & a few punchlines. Harsh, but it has to be said. The beat he uses is Drake's "Successful" beat, and changed the chorus to "I just got to be more careful". T-pain made himself look like a fool & completely missed the mark on this one. He needs to stick to tracks about being on a boat and featuring on other artist’s music. Getting on hooks work for him, not the complete song. This goes up there with this year’s most embarrassing moments, Kanye & Taylor Swift, Lil’ Mama & the Empire State of Mind performance type embarrassing.
If he was trying to prove a point to listeners and fellow artists I'm sure he could have just had his PR release a statement on his behalf. Where is T-pain's PR??
I'd love to hear your take on it, if you disagree, or agree, leave comments. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh cause the track turned me off so badly. Let me know. - Nicki Nahmeanez

"We see them everywhere. Your local gas station, the movies, pool parties, clubs, picnics, car washes, and even that late night pizza joint at 4 in the morning. They’re a virus that is quickly blanketing the world. Hometown hero Mac Lethal was quick to address the problem.
And here is the track directly from Mr Lethal himself. Dj’s PLAY this shit. Its everything you’ve ever wanted to say about doooshes in a condensed 3 min song. And what better to say it than at club packed full of ‘em.
Today's blog is inspired by a conversation I had with someone earlier about female emcees. Although there are not many who honestly do there thing, there are few such as, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Rah Digga, Eve (earlyRuff Rydas), Foxy (prob cause its rumored that Jay-Z wrote some of her rhymes & when she was with The Firm), Missy (for the few times that she did rap), Lauryn Hill & Jean Grae. (If I am missing any of your favs please let me know.)
Lauryn Hill
One of the most amazing artists of my time, Lauryn Hill has captured the hearts of many through Reggae, Soul,R&B, Gospel, Acoustic Guitar, & Hip Hop. She is not only an amazing singer & musician, but an amazing rapper, using higher levels of vocabulary than most emcees. She has truly shown she has the gift of gab. Much love. Much respect.Lauryn Hill.
Female Emcees
Hip hop is a male dominated sport and when women try to play we are not as respected as men, partially because most females out there are just spitting crap. Its hardenough to be an emcee, and have people take you serious & listen to you. When you're a female people tend to half listen, sometimes even looked at as "cute". There are enough men rapping about ignorant shit, us as females don't need to contribute to that. We think on a whole differentlevel than men. Men see black & white, us women see different shadesof grays from light to dark. So in such a literary sport, why are the really good female emcees such a rare breed?
Jean Grae
I wanted to speak on Jean Grae in particular because she is one of the only females holding it down, modern day. I first heard about Jean Grae back in 2006, when I started performing spoken word. My older brother gave me her CD after he found out that I wrote (something I didn't share with anyone previously). Even in her ignorant shit, shes smart, something that is very hard to do. Her lyrics tell stories. Her flow is similar to that of many 90's rappers (perfect speed). Insightful. Intelligent. Truly Gift. Jean Grae.
Lets keep this MusicMonday thing going!! I LOVED this band when I saw them in concert. A week ago I was invited to one of the greatest concerts @ BAM. I went with expectations of hearing good music & came out amazed. The line up included Prophit, Bad Rabbits Band, and The Smyrk, all of which were amazing. Unfortunately, I got there late so I missed Proph, but got there just in time for something that would knock me out of this world, BadRabbits Band. This band is to be compared to none it is a mix of Hip Hop,Soul, and psychedelicecstasy. the lead singer hit notes that pierce your heart & the band set the stage for a perfect symphony. The whole crowd was engaged, swaying, bopping, jumping & just moving to this perfect melody. -Nicki Nahmeanez
I found this clip on youtube that captures something similar to what went down @ BAM check it out.
